IV. figuras en paisaje, 1927-1932

Hombre y caballo en la playa, 1932. Private collection. AlmeríaThis section of the exhibition, under the generic title of “figures in a landscape” includes two sets of drawings made between 1927 and 1928.

In the first set, the figures on the beach teem with vitality. The stroke is stylish, sweet and firm: the pairs of lovers, the riders, and the men dancing or playing exuded placidity.

In contrast, the second set of drawings presented the gradual petrifaction of these vital figures that became totemic forms standing out against harsh and desolate landscapes.

Picasso's influence in these series is obvious.
